Standish Descendant Visits Chorley

Chorley Heritage Group recently hosted a visit made to Chorley by Mark Hammond, from California. Mark can trace his ancestry to the Standishes of Duxbury. Mark visited Chorley at the invitation of Tony Christopher, who researches the Standish families of Lancashire. Mark has been a frequent user of Tony’s website www.mylesstandish.info .

Chorley Heritage Group arranged visits to St. Laurence’s Church, St. Wilfrid’s Church in Standish, to the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society’s Chorley Family History Research Centre, to the Standish sites in the Duxbury area, and to the Chorley Heritage Centre in Astley Hall Farmhouse itself. Mark also met local historian Jim Heyes, and was welcomed to Chorley and its Town Hall by Chief Executive Gary Hall.

Mark was amazed by all the historical evidence of his ancestral family that still survives in Chorley and Standish.
